Pendleton, Oregon – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for much of northeast Oregon as intense summer heat and gusty winds return Friday, July 18. Pendleton is expected to hit 96°F by mid-afternoon, with wind gusts nearing 24 mph creating elevated fire danger — especially near dry grassland and highways like U.S. 395.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning extends through 10 p.m. Friday, covering Umatilla County and surrounding areas. Southwest winds between 10 to 17 mph may gust up to 29 mph Friday night, sustaining fire-prone conditions through the evening hours. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and secure spark-producing tools.

Sunny skies and low humidity will persist Friday, with temperatures remaining near 96°F. That pattern continues Saturday, which will reach 88°F with partly cloudy skies by nightfall. Although weekend temperatures ease slightly, dry and breezy conditions persist — especially on Saturday night, with lows dipping into the upper 50s.

Sunday’s high will hover near 87°F under partly sunny skies, bringing some relief but keeping fire weather concerns in place. Conditions stay dry into next week, with highs in the upper 80s and lows around 57–59°F each night.
