Pendleton, OR – Freezing fog blanketed parts of Eastern Oregon today, reducing visibility to a quarter-mile or less in the Columbia Basin, including areas along Interstate 84. The National Weather Service issued a Fog Advisory in effect until 10 a.m., urging drivers to exercise caution and prepare for potential delays.
According to the NWS, freezing temperatures combined with dense fog have created hazardous travel conditions. Reduced visibility, coupled with icy patches on roads, could increase the risk of accidents. Motorists should lower speeds, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles.
As the day progresses, rain is expected to move into the area, with a 30% chance of precipitation after 1 p.m. Temperatures will rise to a high of 50 degrees. Tonight, heavier rain is likely, with an 80% chance and overnight lows around 39 degrees.
Looking ahead, Monday will bring drier conditions, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 52. However, rain is forecast to return Monday night, continuing into Tuesday morning with gusty southeast winds reaching up to 29 mph. Christmas Day will see partly sunny skies before rain develops later in the day, with temperatures peaking around 47.
Travelers heading through Pendleton and surrounding areas this week should monitor weather updates and prepare for fluctuating conditions, particularly dense fog and rain.
