Portland, OR – A flood warning remains in effect for Lane County until 8 a.m. Monday as heavy rain continues to impact the southern Willamette Valley, leading to rising water levels in rivers and streams.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, significant rainfall has already caused flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Additional rain, up to one inch, is expected overnight as another weather system moves into the region.
Flooding has been reported in several communities, including Creswell, Goshen, Walker, and Saginaw. The affected waterways include the Willamette River, Camas Swale Creek, Middle Fork Willamette River, and other local creeks and tributaries. Residents should be prepared for slow-moving or standing water, especially near roads and low-water crossings, which may be impassable.
Officials urge caution, advising drivers to avoid flooded roads and heed the warning, “Turn around, don’t drown.” Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles attempting to cross high water. Residents should also remain cautious near riverbanks, as they may become unstable due to erosion.
