Baker City, OR – Moderate to heavy rain moved into south-central Baker and north-central Malheur counties Monday evening, triggering a Flash Flood Warning for areas near the Durkee Burn Scar until 7 p.m. MDT.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, strong thunderstorms are producing significant rainfall directly over the recent wildfire scar, raising the risk of dangerous flash flooding through the early evening hours. The warning covers communities from Bridgeport to Lime, including key travel corridors along I-84 and State Route 30.

Residents in Burnt River Valley, Durkee, Huntington, and surrounding rural areas should avoid low-lying roads, creek crossings, and burn scar drainages. Emergency management urges anyone in the warning area to move to higher ground immediately and never drive through flooded roadways. This is especially urgent due to increased runoff and debris flow potential in zones marked as “Moderate” or “High” fire severity on recent mapping.

More heavy showers remain possible into the evening. Additional flash flood warnings may be issued as storms persist. Stay tuned to the National Weather Service for the latest updates.
