Marion County, OR – A Woodburn man has been arrested in connection with a fatal rollover crash that killed one passenger and injured two others in North Marion County this week.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on September 29 near the 7200 block of St. Louis Road NE, outside Gervais. The crash involved a black Ford Ranger pickup that rolled and sustained major damage.
Three passengers were injured. One passenger, identified as Juan Garibo, 27, of Salem, was airlifted by Life Flight but later died at Salem Hospital. Another victim suffered a broken neck, while a third sustained leg injuries requiring stitches.
Deputies identified the driver as 33-year-old Wilfrido Giron-Cortes Jr., of Woodburn. Deputies also reported finding open alcohol containers inside the truck.
On October 2, Giron-Cortes was arrested and booked into the Marion County Jail. He faces charges of Manslaughter I, Assault II, Assault IV, DUII, Recklessly Endangering, and Reckless Driving. He is scheduled for arraignment at the Marion County Court Annex on Friday, October 3, at 2:30 p.m.
The sheriff’s office extended condolences to the victims’ families and thanked local crash response teams and medical personnel for their assistance.
