Medford, OR – The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a High Surf Advisory for Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties, warning of dangerous surf conditions beginning late Friday night and continuing through Saturday afternoon.
Forecasters say a strong west swell will produce breaking waves between 20 and 25 feet, with a brief period of sneaker wave activity possible late Friday night. The heavy surf is expected to impact all area beaches, with waves capable of washing over jetties and rocks and flooding normally dry beach areas.
According to the NWS, beach erosion is likely in some areas, and exposed infrastructure could be damaged. Residents and visitors are strongly urged to avoid area beaches this weekend, especially during high tide, and to never turn their back on the ocean.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve late Saturday night as the swell subsides, but forecasters emphasize continued caution along the coast through the weekend.
