Medford, OR – Mariners along the southern Oregon coast are being urged to stay in port as hazardous sea conditions continue through Tuesday, with steep waves and strong winds posing a significant risk to vessels offshore.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Hazardous Seas Warning remains in effect until 5 p.m. PDT Tuesday, covering coastal waters from Florence to Cape Blanco and from Cape Blanco to Point St. George, California, extending 10 to 60 nautical miles from shore.

Forecasters report north to northeast winds of 15 to 25 knots, with occasional gusts up to 35 knots, and seas reaching 10 to 14 feet at 10 seconds. A concurrent Small Craft Advisory also remains active until 5 a.m. Wednesday, warning smaller vessels of extremely rough and steep conditions.

The most dangerous seas and strongest winds are expected beyond 20 nautical miles from shore, where conditions could capsize or damage vessels. Recreational and commercial operators are advised to delay departures until conditions improve late Tuesday night into Wednesday.
