Medford, OR – A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of Oregon and California, with up to 5 inches of snow expected by Thursday morning. The National Weather Service in Medford issued the advisory, which will remain in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 9 a.m. Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service, the affected areas include Central and Eastern Lake County in Oregon and the Warner Mountains of Modoc County in California. Impacted highways include Highway 31 south of Silver Lake, Highway 395, and the higher elevations of Highway 140 east of Lakeview. In California, travelers on Highway 299 at Cedar Pass should prepare for snow-covered roads.
Motorists should plan for hazardous travel conditions, especially during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Slippery roads and reduced visibility are expected, increasing the risk of accidents and travel delays.
Officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check road conditions before heading out. In California, travelers can call 511 or visit quickmap.dot.ca.gov for updates. In Oregon, road conditions can be checked at tripcheck.com or by calling 511.
Residents are advised to take precautions, including dressing warmly and ensuring vehicles are winter-ready. Snow accumulations are expected to create difficult driving conditions in higher elevations.
