Medford, OR – Temperatures will drop below freezing within hours overnight, putting crops, plants, and outdoor plumbing at risk across southern Oregon and northern California.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday for Jackson and Josephine counties, including Medford, Ashland, and Grants Pass. Temperatures are expected to fall between 28 and 32 degrees, cold enough to damage sensitive vegetation across the Rogue, Illinois, and Applegate valleys.
In northern California, western Siskiyou County—including Happy Camp, Somes Bar, and Seiad Valley—could see even colder readings between 26 and 32 degrees. These conditions are likely to impact the Klamath River Valley, where frost and freezing temperatures may harm early-season crops.
Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants and protect exposed pipes before temperatures drop overnight. Agricultural impacts could be significant if precautions are not taken.
Freezing conditions will ease after 9 a.m. Friday as temperatures rise, but additional cold alerts remain possible if similar conditions return.
