Medford, OR – The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for parts of southern Oregon and northern California, with temperatures expected to dip into the mid-20s to low-30s early Saturday morning.
According to the NWS in Medford, the warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. PDT Saturday for the Klamath Basin, Lake County, Modoc County, and northeast Siskiyou County, including communities such as Klamath Falls, Lakeview, Tulelake, Dorris, and Alturas.
Forecasters warn that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, harm sensitive vegetation, and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. While Saturday morning’s freeze may be spotty, a hard freeze is expected Monday morning, which could affect the entire region. Freezing temperatures are also likely Sunday and Tuesday mornings.
This marks the end of the growing season for many east-side valleys, as normal low temperatures are now approaching freezing.
Officials advise residents to take steps now to protect tender plants, cover outdoor vegetation, and insulate exposed pipes. Ranchers and farmers should prepare livestock water systems for multiple mornings of freezing conditions.
