Portland, OR – The National Weather Service has issued a marginal risk of thunderstorms for northwestern Oregon and southwestern Washington this Saturday, August 17. The NOAA NWS Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a 15-30% chance of storms, particularly over the Cascade Mountains.

According to the forecast, these storms are expected to begin Saturday afternoon and may persist into the late evening. Areas at risk include low-lying and poorly drained locations, where localized urban flooding could occur. Additionally, regions affected by the 2024 burn areas are on high alert for potential debris flows due to heavy rainfall.

Gusty winds accompanying these storms could also cause damage, such as downed trees and power lines. Portland is predicted to experience a 35% chance of precipitation on Saturday, with temperatures reaching a high of 83°F. The rest of the week is forecast to be calmer, with temperatures ranging from the upper 70s to low 80s, under mostly clear skies.

Residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated on the weather conditions and take precautions to secure loose objects and avoid flood-prone areas during the storms.
