Pendleton, Ore. – Dangerously hot weather continues to grip much of Oregon and southeast Washington, with the National Weather Service warning that triple-digit temperatures will linger through midweek. Residents face a high risk of heat-related illness as afternoon highs climb to 98 to 104 degrees across wide portions of the Columbia Basin, Yakima Valley, and the Blue Mountain foothills.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, the Extreme Heat Warning will remain in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday for communities including The Dalles, Hermiston, Walla Walla, Yakima, Ellensburg, and Tri-Cities. Overnight lows in the 60s and 70s will offer little relief, creating added strain for vulnerable groups without access to cooling.

In southern Oregon, a separate Extreme Heat Warning continues until 8 p.m. Monday for the Rogue Valley and Josephine County, including Medford, Grants Pass, and Ashland. Similar conditions are expected in central and western Siskiyou County, California, where highs may reach 108 degrees.

Health officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, drink water frequently, and check on neighbors and relatives. Pets and children must never be left in vehicles, where temperatures can become lethal within minutes. Cooling shelters and services are available by calling 211 in Oregon or Washington.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday, with updates expected if conditions worsen.
