Medford, OR – A High Wind Warning has been issued for Modoc County, California, and Central and Eastern Lake County, Oregon, as strong winds are expected to impact the region from Saturday evening through Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford, southwest winds of 40 to 50 mph are forecasted, with gusts reaching 65 to 75 mph. The warning is in effect from 5 p.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday.
The affected areas in California include Modoc County, covering highways 299, 395, and 139, as well as the cities of Alturas, Canby, Davis Creek, and Willow Ranch. In Oregon, the warning spans Central and Eastern Lake County, including Lakeview, Adel, Paisley, Summer Lake, Silver Lake, and Alkali Lake, as well as highways 140, 31, and 395.
Residents should prepare for possible power outages as high winds could bring down trees and power lines. The NWS warns that travel will be hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles.
Authorities advise residents to remain indoors, stay away from windows, and avoid unnecessary travel. Those on the road should exercise extreme caution, especially in open areas where wind gusts could be strongest.
