Medford, OR – Strong winds are expected to impact portions of southern Oregon and northern California on Wednesday, prompting the National Weather Service to extend a High Wind Warning for affected areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, winds will strengthen early Wednesday morning and persist through the evening. The warning covers central Siskiyou County in California, including the cities of Weed, Gazelle, and Montague, as well as portions of Interstate 5 and Highway 97. South winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts reaching up to 60 mph are anticipated from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. PDT Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the South Central Oregon Coast and Curry County Coast, including Bandon, Gold Beach, and Port Orford, will also experience hazardous conditions. Winds in these areas are forecasted to reach 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph in headland regions such as Cape Blanco and Cape Arago. The warning for the coastal areas will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. PDT Wednesday.
Forecasters warn that these conditions could lead to downed tree limbs, sporadic power outages, and hazardous travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects, remain cautious of falling debris, and limit travel if possible.
Drivers along Highway 101, Interstate 5, and other exposed roadways should be prepared for sudden gusts that could affect vehicle stability. The National Weather Service urges residents to stay updated on the latest forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
