Orangeburg, SC – A 21-year-old Orangeburg man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting at an apartment complex earlier this month.
According to Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, Quentin Williams Jr., 21, was taken into custody Monday and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Authorities say Williams allegedly shot and killed 28-year-old Cameron Ryant of Orangeburg.
Deputies with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office said they were notified of the shooting around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, at an apartment complex on Presidential Drive.
Sheriff Ravenell said Williams was scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday, where he would be formally presented with his rights.
“This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to take someone’s life and for what? Nothing in this world is worth taking someone’s life,” Ravenell said in a statement.
The sheriff credited the U.S. Marshals Service with assisting deputies in locating Williams. “They were extremely helpful to my team working this investigation,” Ravenell said.
The case remains under investigation.
