Newburgh, New York – Roads across the Hudson Valley and parts of northern New Jersey and Connecticut could turn slick by late morning as mixed precipitation moves in, threatening the Tuesday evening commute with a light glaze of ice.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect at 10 a.m. Tuesday and remains in place until 10 p.m. for Orange and Putnam counties in New York, western Passaic County in New Jersey and northern sections of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties in Connecticut. Snow totals up to one inch are possible, along with ice accumulations ranging from a light glaze to a few hundredths of an inch. Higher elevations and areas north and west of Interstate 84 could approach one tenth of an inch of ice.

Bridges and overpasses along I-84, Route 17 and the Taconic State Parkway may become slick first. In western Passaic County, elevated roads near West Milford are especially vulnerable.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check state DOT resources for updates. Conditions may worsen late afternoon into evening before tapering off by 10 p.m., though isolated icy spots could linger overnight in higher terrain.
