MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – A stretch of freezing fall mornings continues across the Hudson Valley, where a Freeze Warning remains in effect through 9 a.m. Monday and a Freeze Watch follows for late Monday night into Tuesday morning. Temperatures have dropped into the upper 20s and low 30s, marking the first hard freeze of the season for many Orange County communities.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, sub-freezing readings as low as 29°F occurred early Monday, with another round of frost and freezing temperatures possible again by dawn Tuesday. Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to plummet once more overnight, particularly in sheltered valleys near Middletown, Goshen, and Warwick.
The Orange County Office of Emergency Management advises residents to cover outdoor plants, drain garden hoses, and protect exposed pipes. Farmers and gardeners should take steps to prevent damage to any remaining late-season crops.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for frosted windshields early both mornings, and pet owners should ensure animals have warm shelter during the cold stretch.
Temperatures will moderate slightly by midweek under sunny skies, with daytime highs returning to the 50s and milder nights expected by Thursday.
