MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Orange County from late Monday night through Tuesday evening as a fast-moving system threatens to dump several inches of snow across the Hudson Valley. The National Weather Service in New York City warns that total snow accumulations could reach between 4 and 7 inches, with both commutes on Tuesday expected to be affected.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin before daybreak Tuesday and intensify through the morning hours, falling at times faster than an inch per hour. Roads are expected to become snow-covered and slick, especially across higher elevations and secondary routes. Visibility may drop quickly during heavier bursts of snow, creating dangerous travel conditions for drivers heading toward Newburgh, Monroe, and Middletown.
Snow may ease briefly in the afternoon but could redevelop into the evening as colder air moves in. Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, give snowplows space, and plan for extended drive times.
Snow is expected to taper off by late Tuesday night, though icy spots could linger into Wednesday morning.
