Orange County, IN – A New Albany man was arrested Thursday night, January 1, after allegedly speeding and showing signs of impairment during a traffic stop on State Road 56 in French Lick, according to the Indiana State Police Jasper Post.

Senior Trooper Noah Ewing was on patrol when he reportedly observed a vehicle traveling above the posted speed limit. After stopping the vehicle, Ewing identified the driver as Joseph F. Jantzen, 25, of New Albany, Indiana, police said.

According to state police, Ewing noted visible signs of impairment while speaking with Jantzen. The driver was transported to IU Health Hospital in Paoli for a chemical test before being booked into the Orange County Jail.

Jantzen has been charged with Operating While Intoxicated (OWI), a Class C misdemeanor, officials confirmed. Assisting officers included Trooper Austin Collins and members of the West Baden Police Department.

Police say Jantzen is being held on bond pending court proceedings.

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
