Orange County, FL – Authorities are warning residents about a new phone and text scam falsely claiming to be from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, scammers are contacting residents through calls, text messages, or documents sent via text, claiming that the recipient has an outstanding warrant that can be resolved through payment. Officials confirm this is a fraudulent scheme.
“The Orange County Sheriff’s Office will never contact you to ask for money,” the department said in a statement posted Tuesday. “Hang up the phone and do not respond to the text.”
Residents are advised not to engage with the caller or sender, not to share personal information such as bank or ID numbers, and to report any suspicious contact to law enforcement.
If you believe you have been targeted or victimized by this scam, you are urged to call the Orange County Sheriff’s non-emergency line at 407-836-4357.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that legitimate deputies or court representatives will never demand payment or threaten arrest by phone or email.
