Paris, NY – Slippery road conditions on State Route 8 led to a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning that sent one driver to the hospital, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Robert Maciol said deputies were called to the intersection of State Route 8 and Oneida Street in the Town of Paris around 8:40 a.m. on November 28 for a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries.
After investigating, patrol deputies determined that a 26-year-old Harpursville man was driving a 2005 Toyota RAV4 northbound on Route 8 when he lost control due to slippery roadway conditions. Deputies say the vehicle veered toward the eastern shoulder and collided with a guardrail. No other vehicles were involved.
The driver was transported to Wynn Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office. Edwards Towing removed the damaged vehicle from the scene.
Deputies issued traffic tickets related to the incident, which are returnable to Paris Town Court at a later date.
The sheriff’s office noted that hazardous morning road conditions contributed to the crash, as temperatures hovered near freezing and created icy patches along portions of Route 8.
Patrol deputies were assisted on scene by Edwards Towing, the Clayville Fire Department, and COCVAC Ambulance.
Officials are reminding drivers to slow down and use caution as winter weather continues to affect travel across central New York.
