Rome, NY – A Utica woman faces criminal charges after deputies say she crashed a stolen minivan in the City of Rome following an attempted traffic stop.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the incident began on October 20, 2025, when a Road Patrol Deputy tried to pull over a gray minivan. As the deputy approached, the driver allegedly fled. Deputies soon learned the vehicle had been reported stolen out of the City of Rome.

After searching the area, deputies located the minivan on Humaston Road in Rome, where it had collided with a tree. The driver, identified as 39-year-old Carrie Presley of Utica, was taken to Rome Health for treatment after the crash.

Due to the nature of the case, the Oneida County Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) took over the investigation. Investigators later charged Presley with one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, in violation of New York State Penal Law section 165.45(5).

Presley was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court at a later date.
