Boonville, N.Y. – Early morning drivers in Northern Oneida County are facing slick stretches and reduced traction as light snow continues to fall ahead of the Saturday sunrise commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Northern Oneida County until 7 a.m. EST Saturday. Forecasters expect up to an additional inch of accumulation, enough to coat untreated roads and sidewalks.
Routes through Boonville, including sections of Route 12 and Route 28, may see snow-covered pavement during the pre-dawn hours. Even minor accumulation can create icy patches, especially on bridges and rural back roads where temperatures remain below freezing. Plow crews are active, but changing road temperatures could allow thin layers of snow to compact quickly under traffic.
Motorists should reduce speed, leave extra stopping distance and allow added travel time through the early commute window. New York 511 offers real-time updates on road conditions statewide.
Snow intensity should diminish around or shortly after 7 a.m., but slick spots could linger into mid-morning. Additional advisories may be issued if bands persist across the Tug Hill region.
