Utica, NY – A routine traffic stop in the City of Utica has led to a felony weapon possession charge and a no-bail hold for a local man already wanted on a Family Court warrant.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Road Patrol Deputies stopped a vehicle on Old Burrstone Road on Monday after recognizing the driver as Benjamin Noon, 47, of Utica, who was known to have an outstanding Oneida County Family Court warrant. Deputies took Noon into custody without incident during the stop.

While effecting the arrest, deputies observed metal knuckles inside the vehicle, located in a small open cubby area of the center console and in plain view, authorities said. Noon was transported to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building for further processing.

Following additional investigation, a member of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit charged Noon with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D felony under New York State law. Noon was then taken to the Oneida County Correctional Facility to await CAP Court.

After appearing in CAP Court, Noon was remanded back to the Oneida County Correctional Facility without bail on the weapon possession charge. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court at a later date for further proceedings related to the felony charge, as well as multiple alleged Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

The Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit also lodged the outstanding Family Court warrant against Noon. Authorities said the warrant carries a $20,000 cash undertaking order issued by Oneida County Family Court. Noon is expected to appear in Family Court at a later date and time as well.

No additional details were released regarding the traffic violations or the ongoing court schedule. All charges are allegations, and Noon is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
