Sangerfield, NY — Deputies arrested a Leonardsville man after a Craigfoot Road traffic stop uncovered methamphetamine and multiple license suspensions.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the stop occurred around 4:41 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026, when a patrol deputy assigned to the Waterville Field Office conducted a traffic stop on Craigfoot Road in the Town of Sangerfield.

The driver was identified as Joshua Buss, 43, of Leonardsville, New York. Authorities say Buss was wanted by the Utica Police Department on an alleged felony charge dating back to 2024.

During the investigation, the deputy determined that Buss’ driver’s license had five separate suspensions imposed on five different dates, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies also allegedly discovered a quantity of methamphetamine in Buss’ possession during the stop.

Buss was arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st Degree (Felony) under New York’s Leandra’s Law
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree (Misdemeanor)

Authorities said Buss was transported to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building, where he was processed on the charges. Deputies also issued multiple uniform traffic tickets related to the stop, according to the sheriff’s office.

Following processing, Buss was taken to the Oneida County Central Arraignment Part for arraignment and was later held on bail at the Oneida County Correctional Facility.

Officials said Buss is scheduled to appear in Sangerfield Town Court at a later date.

The traffic stop occurred along Craigfoot Road, a route used regularly by local commuters and residents traveling through the rural portion of southern Oneida County.
