Rome, NY – A Vernon man is facing several charges today after deputies say he allegedly pointed what appeared to be a handgun at two victims during a confrontation Monday night in Oneida County.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 7 p.m. Monday on Simmons Road in the Town of Vernon, where Road Patrol Deputies responded to a report of a physical altercation involving a weapon. Officials said a man on scene was acting erratically and allegedly pointed what the victims believed to be a handgun at them.
The victims attempted to retreat into a nearby residence, but the suspect reportedly advanced toward them while holding the weapon. A struggle followed, deputies said, during which one of the victims managed to disarm the suspect. Deputies later determined the weapon was a handgun- or pistol-style pellet gun.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies took the suspect into custody without further incident. He was identified as Glenn A. Wallis, 40, of Vernon. Wallis was transported to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building for processing.
As part of the investigation, deputies charged Wallis with two counts of Menacing in the Second Degree, a Class A misdemeanor, and one count of Harassment in the Second Degree, a violation. The Criminal Investigation Unit additionally charged him with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D felony.
Wallis was lodged at the Oneida County Correctional Facility pending a CAP Court appearance scheduled for later today, Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
