Verona, N.Y. – A Verona man was arrested after a domestic dispute investigation uncovered illegal firearms and led to multiple charges.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, deputies were dispatched Feb. 26 to a residence in the Town of Verona following a reported domestic incident. Authorities said the suspect had allegedly left the home in a vehicle before deputies arrived, and his vehicle was later located after reportedly going off the roadway.

Investigators said an argument between the suspect and the victim escalated when the suspect allegedly took the victim’s cellphone while the victim attempted to call 911. The victim reportedly retrieved a second phone and contacted emergency services from a bedroom. Deputies said the suspect allegedly attempted to damage the bedroom door before leaving the residence.

During the investigation, authorities reported recovering several illegal firearms and ammunition magazines inside the home. The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit assisted at the scene.

Nasear L. Walker, 30, of Verona, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (misdemeanor); two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (Class A misdemeanors); five counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class D felonies); and three counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm (Class E felonies).

Walker was processed at the Oneida County Correctional Facility and later released after posting bail, officials said. An order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

The case may draw attention among local residents and young adults regarding firearm possession laws and domestic violence reporting procedures.
