Utica, NY – A Clinton man faces multiple charges this week after deputies say he allegedly violated an active stay-away order of protection tied to previous domestic incidents.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted on December 4 after a bench warrant had been issued for 36-year-old David J. Murphy of Clinton. Road Patrol Deputies located Murphy at a hotel in the Town of New Hartford during the early morning hours and took him into custody on the outstanding warrant.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, further investigation revealed that Murphy allegedly violated an active order of protection by coming into contact with the protected individual. Deputies say hotel surveillance footage showed Murphy with the protected party, which constitutes a direct violation of the stay-away order.
Murphy was charged with Criminal Contempt 2nd, a Class A misdemeanor, and Aggravated Family Offense, a Class E felony. Both charges stem from the alleged violation of the protection order issued after multiple prior domestic-related incidents, authorities said.
Murphy was processed on the new charges on December 9, 2025, at which time deputies say he was again instructed to cease all contact with the protected individual. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he was then returned to the Oneida County Jail to await arraignment.
Authorities did not provide additional details on the circumstances leading up to the alleged violation or whether further charges are possible.
Residents with information related to domestic violence concerns are urged to contact local law enforcement or area advocacy services.
