Oneida County, NY – A City of Rome man was arrested Wednesday night after deputies say he threatened another man with a large knife outside a Dollar General on Turin Road. The incident began around 6:45 p.m. when Oneida County Road Patrol Deputies responded to a menacing-in-progress call that reportedly made store employees uncomfortable and alarmed shoppers.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect had been acting erratically inside the store before exiting and allegedly confronting a man who was not an employee. Deputies say the suspect then displayed a large knife and made verbal threats before leaving the area.

Deputies located the suspect at approximately 8:56 p.m. and took him into custody without incident. Officials identified him as a 38-year-old Rome man. According to deputies, he was transported to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building for booking and processing.

The sheriff’s office reports the man was charged with one count of Menacing in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor. The Criminal Investigation Unit also charged him with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class D felony.

Deputies later discovered the man had three active warrants: one out of New York State Police in Oneida for petit larceny, and two from Watertown Police for resisting arrest and illegal dumping, according to the sheriff’s office.

After arraignment in CAP Court, he was remanded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility on no bail pending further proceedings.
