Penn Township, MI – A 35-year-old Indiana woman was injured early Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash in Cass County, authorities said.
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 4:30 a.m. to a crash along Shattuck Road, just south of Quaker Street in Penn Township. The driver, identified as Alisha Kindy of Goshen, Indiana, was reportedly traveling north when she lost control of the vehicle.
Officials said the vehicle initially veered off the road to the right and struck a tree, then crossed back over the roadway before leaving the pavement again and becoming lodged in a field. Kindy was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
Kindy was transported by SMCAS Ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the incident.
Investigators noted that Kindy was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drugs may have played a role, though the cause remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were SMCAS Ambulance, the Penn Township Fire Department, and the Central Cass Fire Department.
