Omaha, NE – Strong winds and dry air are combining to create critical wildfire conditions across Nebraska today, with a Red Flag Warning in effect until 5 p.m. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and avoid any activities that could spark a fire. Gusts up to 60 mph will heighten fire risks, particularly along the I-80 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the greatest risk of fire will occur between noon and 6 p.m. Relative humidity will plummet to as low as 25%, further exacerbating wildfire potential. Winds will gradually diminish by evening, but gusts up to 35 mph will persist.

Temperatures today will peak near 45°F under partly sunny skies. Tonight, expect clear conditions with a low around 29°F. Thursday will bring calmer weather, with highs near 42°F and winds easing to 8-13 mph.

Looking ahead, Friday is forecast to be sunny with a high of 44°F, followed by partly cloudy conditions on Saturday and highs around 50°F. Sunday will see similar temperatures with mostly sunny skies.

Residents are reminded to properly discard smoking materials, avoid burning debris, and follow all local fire restrictions. Stay tuned for updates as conditions evolve, and always follow evacuation orders if issued.
