Omaha, NE – At 3:24 PM CST Sunday, the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley issued an updated forecast highlighting another frigid day across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, followed by a significant warm-up heading into the new week.

According to the National Weather Service, dangerously cold wind chills are expected to continue tonight, dipping into the single digits below zero, with some locations briefly falling near or just below zero. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to range from 12 to 17 degrees, making it another harsh night for anyone outdoors without proper protection.

Despite the cold start, forecasters say relief is on the way. Monday will turn warmer and mostly sunny, with highs climbing into the low to mid 40s, a noticeable improvement from the weekend chill. Temperatures will continue to rise Tuesday, reaching the upper 40s to low 50s, signaling a rapid shift in the pattern.

By Wednesday, highs are expected to range from 49 to 54 degrees, though clouds will increase and there is a 15–30% chance of light rain Wednesday evening. Mild conditions are expected to persist into Thursday, but the warm-up will come with strong winds, as gusts exceeding 30 mph are possible.

Looking ahead to the end of the week, temperatures are forecast to cool slightly, with highs in the 40s Friday and mid to upper 40s Saturday, under mostly cloudy skies.

Officials urge residents to bundle up tonight, limit prolonged outdoor exposure, and ensure pets and vulnerable populations are protected from the cold. Drivers should also remain cautious early Monday morning as lingering cold could affect untreated roads.

The National Weather Service says confidence in the forecast is high, with the cold giving way to a stretch of milder — but occasionally windy — winter weather.
