Omaha, Neb. – Damaging thunderstorms packing 70+ mph winds and hail up to 1.5 inches are expected to sweep across eastern Nebraska late Sunday night into early Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the highest risk window stretches from 10 p.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday, with widespread severe storms likely developing overnight. Isolated, less intense cells may form earlier in the evening, but the more dangerous round is expected after midnight.
Areas under a Level 2 “Slight Risk” include Lincoln, Omaha, and southeast Nebraska counties near the Missouri River. Primary hazards include damaging straight-line winds and large hail. While tornadoes are not anticipated, the storms could still down trees and power lines, especially in rural or poorly sheltered areas.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware tonight, secure outdoor objects, and have multiple ways to receive warnings—especially if asleep during peak storm hours. Travelers along I-80 and Highway 75 should plan for reduced visibility and sudden wind gusts.
This system may mark the strongest overnight threat since mid-June and could lead to localized outages. Additional advisories may be issued if storm coverage expands.
