Omaha, Nebraska – Eastern Nebraska could see more than 4 inches of rain through Monday morning, with flash flooding possible as downpours intensify overnight and continue into the weekend. The highest flood potential is west of Highway 81, where storm cells could stall and drop rain at rates topping 1 inch per hour.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, there’s over a 70% chance that eastern Nebraska and western Iowa will receive at least 4 inches of rain before Monday. Areas under the heaviest rainfall zones could locally exceed 6 inches, though the placement of that band remains uncertain. Bright orange and red bands on the rainfall map show where the highest risks currently lie.

Flash flooding is most likely where multiple rounds of heavy rainfall hit the same areas. Urban regions such as Lincoln and surrounding counties, including Lancaster and Seward, may see temporary road closures or localized ponding. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roads and delay travel during peak rain hours.

Rainfall rates may peak between 1.5 to 2 inches per hour tonight, though more common hourly rates will stay near 1 inch. Emergency managers recommend charging devices and preparing for potential power outages or flooded basements.

Rain chances continue through Sunday night, with updates likely as the storm track evolves. Flash Flood Watches remain possible through early Monday.
