OMAHA, Neb. – Storm chances return to Nebraska Sunday afternoon and evening, with the potential for severe weather across much of the state. The main threats include damaging wind gusts and hail, some of which could reach the size of quarters.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, thunderstorms are likely to develop across eastern Nebraska late Sunday, with a 20 to 50 percent chance of activity. While most storms are expected to remain scattered, there is a 5 to 10 percent chance of an isolated storm becoming severe. The strongest storms could produce winds up to 60 mph and large hail.
Cities including Omaha, Lincoln, Fremont, and Norfolk could see the highest impacts during the late afternoon and evening. Motorists traveling along Interstate 80 and Highway 77 should be alert for sudden downpours, gusty crosswinds, and reduced visibility.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during storm activity, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts. While the risk for tornadoes is low, storms capable of producing damaging hail and winds remain a concern through Sunday evening.
Additional watches or warnings may be issued if storm activity intensifies, with conditions remaining unsettled into early next week.
