Omaha, Nebraska – Cold temperatures and single-digit wind chills are expected again tonight across the Omaha area, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service office in Omaha/Valley reports that wind chills in the single digits above zero are forecast overnight as cold air settles across eastern Nebraska. While no widespread hazardous weather is anticipated beyond the cold, exposure risks will increase during late-night and early-morning hours.
Early Tuesday conditions at Eppley Airfield showed temperatures near 14°F, with wind chills around –2°F. Winds were relatively light but sufficient to drive wind chill values well below the actual air temperature. Skies were mostly clear, allowing temperatures to fall efficiently overnight.
Conditions are expected to improve during the day Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies and highs reaching near 46°F, marking a rapid daytime warmup. Southwest winds may gust up to 18 mph, though no travel disruptions are expected.
Tuesday night will bring increasing clouds and colder temperatures, with lows near 28°F. A more significant warming trend arrives midweek, with highs climbing to around 48°F on Wednesday under mostly sunny skies. Overnight lows Wednesday night are forecast near 22°F.
By New Year’s Day, partly sunny conditions are expected with highs near 35°F, followed by continued seasonable temperatures through the end of the week. The National Weather Service notes that the probability of widespread hazardous weather through Monday remains low.
Spotter activation is not expected at this time, and no winter weather advisories or warnings are currently in effect for the Omaha metro.
Commuters, students, and overnight workers should dress for cold wind chills tonight and during early morning hours. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as temperatures fluctuate through the week.
