Omaha, Nebraska – Light snow is expected to affect the Omaha metro area late tonight into Thursday, potentially creating slick travel conditions along major roadways during peak commute hours.
According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley, snow chances will increase from the north late Wednesday night and continue through Thursday. Accumulations are expected to remain light, with most locations receiving less than one inch, though localized totals near one inch are possible in far northeast Nebraska.
Forecast graphics shared by the NWS show the highest probability of measurable snowfall north and northeast of Omaha, including areas near Interstate 29, while lighter amounts are expected closer to Interstate 80 and Interstate 680 through the metro. Snow showers may briefly reduce visibility and create slick spots, particularly Thursday morning and again during the evening commute.
The agency noted that snowfall will gradually taper off late Thursday evening. However, a few lingering snow showers could persist into early Friday morning across northeast Nebraska, where probabilities for higher totals remain elevated.
While widespread travel disruptions are not expected, untreated roads, overpasses, and bridges could become slick during periods of snowfall. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and use caution, especially during early morning hours.
This system is considered a low-impact winter event, but even light snow can pose hazards during high-traffic periods. The forecast is especially relevant for commuters, students, and early-shift workers traveling along Omaha’s primary highway corridors.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and local road conditions as the system moves through the region.
