Omaha, NE – Well-above normal temperatures are expected to continue across eastern Nebraska through Saturday, with increasing fire weather concerns as dry conditions persist.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, highs will climb steadily into the upper 70s and 80s by Friday, with some locations nearing 90 degrees by Saturday.
Forecast trends show Omaha, Lincoln, and Norfolk all experiencing significant warming compared to seasonal averages, with peak temperatures occurring late in the week.
The National Weather Service warns that limited precipitation combined with warm temperatures will create areas of very high to potentially extreme fire danger, especially Friday and Saturday.
Residents are advised to avoid activities that could spark fires, as dry vegetation and breezy conditions may allow fires to spread quickly.
A cold front is expected to move through Saturday night, bringing temperatures back closer to normal by Sunday and into early next week.
The sharp warmup followed by a cooldown reflects a broader spring transition pattern across the central Plains.
The dry and warm stretch may impact outdoor work, agriculture, and travel, particularly in areas with elevated fire risk.
