Nebraska/Iowa – Snow will begin sticking quickly early Tuesday, and roads around Omaha could turn slick within minutes as temperatures drop below freezing during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, a narrow band of snow is expected to develop early Tuesday with a 40–90% chance of formation. Snowfall totals between 1 and 3 inches are possible, though exact placement remains uncertain. What is certain is the impact—wherever snow falls, it will stick fast.

Across Omaha, Council Bluffs, and along I-80 and I-29, pavement temperatures will fall below freezing quickly. That sets the stage for rapid accumulation on roads, especially bridges and overpasses. Expect reduced traction and sudden slowdowns. Plan extra travel time and avoid abrupt braking.

Further west toward Norfolk and Columbus, and east into southwest Iowa, this narrow snow band could shift slightly north or south. That means some areas may see minimal impact, while others pick up a quick inch or more in a short window. Visibility could briefly drop during heavier bursts.

The bigger concern is timing. Snow arrives during peak travel hours, increasing the risk of spinouts and minor crashes. This is a classic setup for “flash freezing,” where moisture freezes almost instantly on contact with cold pavement.

Conditions improve later Tuesday as skies clear, but roads may remain slick into midday in shaded areas.

Stay alert and check road conditions before heading out. Are you planning to travel during the Tuesday morning commute?
