Omaha, Neb. – Strong thunderstorms are set to develop across eastern Nebraska late Monday afternoon into the evening, bringing a heightened risk for large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. Travel and outdoor plans could be impacted as the most dangerous weather arrives between 6 p.m. and midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the severe threat zone stretches from Norfolk through Lincoln and Omaha into western Iowa, with the highest risk rated at level 2 on a five-tier scale. Forecasters say hail large enough to damage vehicles and roofs is likely, along with winds strong enough to topple trees and power lines. Localized flooding could develop in low-lying areas.

Communities including Fremont, York, and Council Bluffs are in the path of the evening storms. Emergency officials urge residents to charge devices, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and avoid unnecessary travel after dark when hazards may be harder to spot.

The greatest window for severe weather runs from 6 p.m. through 2 a.m. Tuesday, with additional updates expected if the threat escalates. Residents are urged to remain weather-aware throughout the evening.
