Omaha, NE – A stolen U-Haul pursuit stretching from Papillion into Omaha ended with an arrest Wednesday morning after the driver allegedly collided with a Nebraska State Patrol cruiser, authorities said.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), troopers received information around 11 a.m. Wednesday about a U-Haul truck that had been reported stolen and was traveling near 84th Street and Highway 6 in Papillion, located in Sarpy County, just south of Omaha.
NSP said a trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly refused to comply and fled, prompting a pursuit. Authorities say the chase continued for approximately 20 minutes, moving through multiple roadways in the Omaha metro area.
According to NSP, the pursuit ended near 35th and Mason Streets in Omaha when the suspect vehicle reached a dead end. Troopers say the driver braked abruptly, causing the U-Haul to collide with the pursuing patrol vehicle. The truck then came to a stop.
The driver was taken into custody without further incident. NSP confirmed there were no reported injuries to troopers, the suspect, or the public.
The suspect was identified as Heath Stockdale, 38, of Omaha. According to authorities, Stockdale was arrested on multiple charges, including flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, assault of a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, theft by receiving stolen property, and numerous traffic violations.
Stockdale was lodged in the Sarpy County Jail, NSP said. The incident remains under investigation, and no additional suspects were reported.
