Wahoo, Nebraska – Drivers in Saunders County should avoid flooded roads tonight as Wahoo Creek rises rapidly, with a flood warning in effect until 1 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, heavy rainfall early Monday and ongoing afternoon showers triggered sharp water level increases across Wahoo Creek and surrounding streams. Flooding is imminent or ongoing, particularly in low-lying areas near Weston and Wahoo.

The surge in runoff has raised concerns for county road conditions, especially in areas downstream of Wahoo Creek. Local emergency management officials warn that continued stream rises are expected through the evening, creating hazardous travel conditions and the potential for isolated road closures.

Flooding is most likely in rural areas and near smaller bridges and culverts. Residents are urged not to attempt driving through water-covered roadways. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains a critical reminder—most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.

This is the second significant flooding event in Saunders County this year, echoing similar conditions seen in early spring. The flood warning remains active until 1 a.m. Wednesday, with updates expected if rainfall continues into Tuesday night.
