Omaha, NE – Eastern Nebraska and parts of western Iowa are set to endure dangerous heat Friday and Saturday, with heat index values soaring between 100 and 107 degrees both days. The National Weather Service has issued Heat Advisories from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and again Saturday, warning residents to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley office, temperatures will feel most oppressive in areas along and east of U.S. Highway 81, including Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk, and Council Bluffs. Heat indices near or above 105 degrees are expected Friday, with Saturday seeing similar extremes before slightly cooler air arrives Sunday.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, check on vulnerable neighbors, and avoid strenuous outdoor work during advisory hours. Cooling centers may be available in larger cities, and local officials encourage using air conditioning where possible. Prolonged exposure to such heat can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Temperatures are expected to ease into the upper 80s and lower 90s by Sunday, with lower humidity providing some relief. Additional advisories may be issued if extreme heat persists into next week.
