Interstate 80 near Omaha, Nebraska – Travel across eastern Nebraska could become hazardous late Friday into Saturday as accumulating snow and dangerous cold impact road conditions, particularly along and south of Interstate 80.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, a winter system will bring a 50–80% chance of accumulating snow to the region from Friday night through Saturday, with the highest probabilities south of I-80. Forecasters say roads are likely to become snow covered and slippery, increasing the risk of crashes and travel delays.

Winter driving condition maps indicate moderate impacts are possible across much of southeast Nebraska, including areas near Omaha, Lincoln, and Beatrice. Even modest snowfall amounts may lead to hazardous travel due to very cold temperatures, which can limit the effectiveness of road treatments and allow snow to persist.

Key travel routes including Interstate 80, Interstate 680, U.S. Highway 75, and U.S. Highway 77 may see deteriorating conditions as snowfall develops Friday night and continues into Saturday. Drivers could encounter reduced visibility, slick pavement, and slower traffic, especially during early Saturday travel hours.

The Weather Service also warns that dangerous cold will accompany the snow, increasing the risk for motorists who become stranded. Officials recommend carrying an emergency supply kit, sharing travel plans, and ensuring vehicles are winter-ready.

Residents are urged to plan ahead for slick travel conditions, delay non-essential trips if possible, and monitor forecast updates as snowfall placement and amounts may still shift.

Commuters and weekend travelers using I-80 and surrounding highways in eastern Nebraska should prepare for hazardous winter driving conditions through Saturday.
