Omaha, NE – The National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for northeast Nebraska and parts of western Iowa from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, as a mix of light snow and freezing drizzle is expected to make travel conditions slippery through the day.
Forecasters say 1 inch or more of snow is likely from Niobrara, Nebraska, through Red Oak, Iowa, with higher totals of 2–5 inches possible toward Sioux City and Carroll. A narrow band of heavier snow may shift slightly south toward the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area, where light freezing rain under 0.03” could also develop.
The storm is expected to arrive Saturday morning, peak during the afternoon and early evening, and taper off by early Sunday. While ice accumulation will be minimal, even a thin glaze could make bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads slick.
The NWS advises caution for anyone traveling across I-80 or I-29, especially north and east of Omaha, where snowfall rates may briefly reduce visibility. Drivers should allow extra travel time and monitor 511.nebraska.gov for updated road conditions.
