Omaha, NE – Drivers across eastern Nebraska are urged to use caution as many highways and rural roads remain snow and ice covered following the latest round of winter weather.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, several counties across eastern and southeastern Nebraska continue to report hazardous travel conditions, with slick and partially covered roadways stretching from Omaha to Lincoln and north toward Norfolk.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation’s 511 map shows extensive snow and ice coverage (highlighted in pink and blue) across key corridors, including Highways 81, 77, and 30, as well as portions of Interstate 80. Crews are working to clear remaining snow and treat roadways, but freezing temperatures overnight could refreeze wet surfaces and worsen conditions.
Motorists are strongly encouraged to check real-time road reports before traveling by visiting 511.nebraska.gov or the Iowa Department of Transportation at 511ia.org.
Authorities continue to remind residents to reduce speed, allow extra braking distance, and avoid unnecessary travel until road conditions improve.
