Norman, Oklahoma – Wet snow is expected to impact northwestern Oklahoma on Friday, Jan. 9, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory for Harper County during the afternoon and evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the advisory is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. CST Friday, Jan. 9, as a system moves through the region bringing periods of light, wet snowfall.
Snow accumulations are expected to reach up to one inch, mainly across Harper County, including the communities of Buffalo and Laverne. While totals are relatively minor, officials warn that even light snowfall can create slippery road conditions, especially on untreated surfaces.
The National Weather Service notes that the timing of the snow may affect the Friday evening commute, Jan. 9, when road temperatures cool and traction becomes more limited. Reduced braking performance and slick spots are possible, particularly on bridges and overpasses.
Residents and travelers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach destinations. Drivers are encouraged to monitor local road conditions before traveling.
