Oklahoma City, OK – A stretch of unseasonably warm fall weather will keep central Oklahoma feeling more like July than October through early next week, with highs pushing near 90 degrees and only a slight chance of relief by Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, temperatures will climb into the upper 80s Friday through Monday under mostly sunny skies. Afternoon winds will pick up this weekend, with gusts near 20 mph on Saturday, adding to fire weather concerns for dry grasslands across western and central counties. Travel will not be significantly affected, but those spending extended time outdoors should plan for strong sun and keep hydrated.

The warm spell is expected to ease slightly by Tuesday, when a weak front brings a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after midday. Conditions look partly cloudy midweek, with highs falling back into the low 80s by Wednesday and Thursday. Cooler mornings will follow, with lows dipping into the low 60s, signaling a more seasonal feel.

NWS meteorologists urge residents to prepare for the unusual early-October heat. Sensitive groups should avoid strenuous activity in the afternoon sun, while pet owners are advised to ensure animals have shade and water. Farmers and gardeners should continue irrigation where needed as rain chances remain slim until next week.
