TULSA, Okla. – A Freeze Warning remains in effect for most of Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas early Sunday as temperatures dip to near 30°F, signaling the first widespread freeze of the fall season. The National Weather Service offices in Tulsa and Norman report that subfreezing temperatures will persist through 7 to 8 a.m., with frost already forming across parts of the Arkansas River Valley, Green Country, and north-central Oklahoma.

According to forecasters, the coldest readings are occurring in sheltered valleys and rural areas along Highways 412 and I-40, where calm winds and clear skies are maximizing overnight cooling. Cities including Tulsa, McAlester, Stillwater, and Muskogee are all expected to start the day below freezing.

The NWS urges residents to protect sensitive plants, cover outdoor faucets, and insulate exposed plumbing. Pet owners should ensure animals have warm shelter, and drivers may encounter light frost on windshields at daybreak.

After sunrise, conditions will warm quickly, with temperatures rebounding into the mid-50s to near 60° under mostly sunny skies. A milder pattern is expected early in the week, though another cool front could bring renewed frost chances later in the week.
