OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The coldest air of the fall season is sweeping across Oklahoma and parts of North Texas tonight, prompting a Freeze Warning for nearly the entire region as temperatures fall into the lower 20s by Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the warning runs from 9 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday, covering cities including Oklahoma City, Norman, Lawton, Stillwater, Ardmore, Ada, Durant, and Wichita Falls, Texas. Forecasters expect subfreezing temperatures between 22°F and 28°F, with rural valleys and western counties likely seeing the coldest readings.

Officials advise residents to wrap outdoor pipes, bring pets and plants indoors, and drain irrigation systems before nightfall. The cold could damage unprotected plumbing and kill remaining crops or tender vegetation. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation cautions drivers about patchy frost or icy spots on elevated roadways during the Monday morning commute, particularly along I-35, I-40, and I-44.

This widespread freeze will likely mark the end of the growing season across the Southern Plains. Conditions will remain clear and cold through Monday morning, followed by gradual warming under sunny skies early next week.
